Here we are, ringing in 40 years of the McTwist; perhaps the first trick in skateboarding history to achieve “household name” status. With the possible exception of the 900, is there a single skateboarding trick more legendary? A single maneuver that has been requested more by crowds of delirious, sunburnt demo-goers? We don’t think so- and joining us here in the BBAS studio to back up this inarguable claim is renowned skate historian, author, artist, and Berlin Skateboard Museum curator Jürgen Blümlein! We talked with Jürgen about his involvement in the McTwist’s 40th anniversary celebration, his collaboration with Mike McGill and Vans on their upcoming limited-edition commemorative Sk8-Hi colorway, and we get deep into the trick’s rich four-decade history all the way back to that fateful evening at the Swedish summer camp in 1984. McTwist and shout? Wipe out all over the place, baby… and join us, shall you?
